Discovering Weight Training! A game changer in my quest to combat my obesity.

I've decided to call it what it is, I''m obese and suffer from chronic obesity.  My BMI today is 38.8 (chronic obesity) down from an all time high of approximately 44 (morbid obesity).  I don't know why I haven't taken this seriously over the past several years.

New focus:

Since August of this year I've started weight training.  I bought a bunch of varied dumb bells from 5 lbs. to 15 lbs.  I've got a small weight bench and kettle bells from 5 lbs. to 15 lbs.  What a game changer! I absolutley love lifting and can already feel the changes in my body.   The other day I was scratching my calf and felt these weird bulges.  I realized those bulges are muscle.  My arms feel great!  I've still got those flabby grandma arms but over time that will go away.

I am not as focused on cardio as the main method but am still incorporating that into my weekly routine.  This change in routine has made things so much easier.  I walk daily and focus on total steps for the day.  Focusing on getting at least 7000 steps minium.  I  walk/run on the treadmill three times a week for only about 10 minutes.  Walk 2 minuts at 2.5, 1 minute at 3.5 and then move up to 4mph, with a run for 10 - 15 seconds at 6mph for a total of 10 minutes.  It gets my heart rate up and I break out in a sweat.  I want to burn fat and the only way to do that is constant movement throughout the day.  I have always hated running, hated cardio workouts but always thought those were the only way to burn fat.  I'm so very happy to be able to combine weight training and cardio.  The weight workouts raise my heart rate higher than the treadmill.

I'm using weight watchers as my diet but focusing on plenty of protein and very little complex carbs.  Sometimes I barely hit 1200 calories and yet I'm not hungry.  I take 5000 mg of creatine and stay hydrated!

The scale isn't going to be as favorable as in the past because I know I'm building muscle beneath all of my fat but I am starting to see changes in the way my clothing fits.

So this is it.  I'm rebranding my journey.  It's not just to lose weight it's a quest to erase my chronic obesity.
